C4AIL Commentary

This is a potentially important development, even though the annoucement is overplaying it’s hand a bit.

A few notes:

  1. It shows both Unreal and Unity have flunked the opportunity to position themselves as a world engine to be operated by AI and someone has now capitalized on that void to move into that space

  2. The announcement includes many things not actually available yet and aspirational in nature. Windows does not even have a camera / renderer yet, no generative AI functions are present

  3. The benchmark scores are … either naive or misleading. The test setup is such that the GPU is idle for most of the scene and not heavily pushed. Actually updating the scene for more realistic benchmarking destroys the claims of many orders of magnitude better performance - it’s actually performing worse than most existing solutions in representative benchmarking

  4. Nevertheless it’s a very ambition package that could be really impactful if implemented and open sourced.
